Barry & Dave · Episode 4

Seven Portals

Barry has seven tender portals, eight logins and a stormwater monitoring job that keeps turning up in all of them. His passwords are safe, though. He filed them by colour.

Government tenders in Queensland do not live in one place. Queensland Government has its portals, Brisbane City Council has its own, the federal government has another, and most of them want a separate login. Owners of environmental monitoring and water services firms end up with a row of sticky notes on the monitor and a password for every door.

The worse problem is the double handling. The same stormwater monitoring job gets listed on three portals, so you read it three times, check it is the same one three times, and still worry you have missed a fourth. Hours go into checking, not into bidding, and when a login fails the helpdesk number is sometimes not the helpdesk.

Helm Tender brings Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council and federal tenders into one feed, with a daily digest of the ones that fit your business.

What they say

Barry: G'day, I'm Barry. I love doin' business the way I always have.

Dave: And I'm Dave. I used to. Then I found a better way.

Dave: And?

Barry: Same stormwater monitoring job. Listed three times.

Dave: Passwords?

Barry: All here. Filed by colour.

Barry: Portal helpdesk... or the pizza place.

Dave: And?

Barry: Rang it. Nice lady. Wrong portal.

Dave: My old laptop had a fringe too.

Barry: What'd you do?

Dave: Helm Tender now. One briefing a morning. The ones that fit.

Barry: I'll tell the nice lady.

Dave: She knows me.

Barry: ...Course she does.
